All UK orders are sent using a recorded courier service. International orders will be sent by airmail, using recorded services where possible. Alternative courier services will be used when necessary.
Where complete orders are in stock we aim to dispatch within 48 hours of receipt of order and payment (excludes Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays).
Where an order contains special-order items the dispatch of that order will usually be delayed until those special-order items are in stock. The decision whether or not to hold an order until special-order or out-of-stock items are available will be made by Design A Cake at their discretion. Design A Cake will make the effort to keep the customer informed where such a delay occurs.
3.0: Postage and packaging charges
To ensure a fair cost to the customer, cost of postage is calculated by destination and the overall estimated weight of products and packaging, and is calculated as closely as possible to the tariffs provided by our couriers.
Postal costs are shown on the "View Basket" page throughout the ordering process. Rates default to UK mainland, exclusive of any applicable postal surcharge.
If you are logged in then the site will use your specified country and postcode to calculate your postal rate including any applicable postal surcharge.
We request that new and international customers pay special attention to the postal rate displayed on the "Payment Details" page as they may vary from the costs shown prior to entering address details which defaults to UK mainland.

Addresses with certain postcodes incur postal surcharges from our couriers. Regretably we are unable to absorb all of these costs.

3.3: Description of service
The charge made for postage is to cover the posting of an entire order to one address on one occasion to the address specified by the customer.
3.4: Undeliverable parcels
If through no fault of Design A Cake or its agents, a parcel is unable to be delivered or is delivered to an incorrect address, an additional charge will be made to have the order posted again. No refunds will be made for the postage and packaging of the original parcel. We consider the posting of a parcel to be a custom-build item and is excluded from refunds under the The Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000. This includes but is not limited to the following situations:
The charge for resending orders within the UK is £3.95 (plus any applicable postal surcharge) per parcel. International orders will be charged the amount that the order cost to send in the first instance.
Where parcels are held by a Customs agency, it will be the responsibility of the consignee to have that Customs agency contact Design A Cake regarding any issues that require our intervention to resolve.
If undelivered goods are returned to Design A Cake and arrangements for resending are not made they will be available for collection from the shop during normal opening hours for up to 14 days at which point the order will be cancelled and a refund made for the cost of goods.
Any items that are back-ordered will incur no extra postal costs. We will not add additional items or orders to backordered parcels. If you need extra items they will be considered to be a new order that will incur its own postal cost.
Please note we cannot be held responsible for errors in service that we have no control over, however, we will do our best to ensure that the standards we have in place are upheld at all times. If you parcel does not arrive within the time frame described in S2(1) please contact our sales team on 0191 4177377 quoting your order number. With the tracking services in place we should be able to sort out any problems quickly and efficiently.
4.1: Damaged parcels
If your parcel appears to have been damaged or tampered with, please do refuse delivery and allow the courier to return the package to us.
